Starting in the next few days, I'll be revising and publishing a guide to "Outside-the-Engine" DMing in Neverwinter Nights, which will be available for viewing and download as a DM/player aid. (Name has since been revised to "Creative DMing and Playing Techniques" which is more accessible.)
Questions or comments on particular in-game scenarios that people may have encountered in the past, or may want to try to do in the future, are welcomed. There are usually multiple ways to handle these situations, so different perspectives and practices are always good to see.
Here's a working definition:
"Outside-the-Engine" DMing is anything you do in-game that goes beyond how the Neverwinter Nights (NWN) game engine resolves situations. This includes a wide range of possible actions, from the straightforward to the complex. A few examples:
-- Giving detailed descriptions of the environment to PCs via "Tell"
-- Making unscripted skill checks for a party
-- Simulating the effects of spells not included in NWN
I also don't want to neglect things that enterprising players can do for themselves in multiplayer, with or without a DM present.
