// To be on the safe side, anything else we should test in the OOC area (e.g. Sniper Rifle)?

The game crashed as soon as Mirgalen shot the heavy cannon so it looks like that's our problem. We can test everything else next week, but we know that the handguns and regular rifles don't cause an issue. I'll replace the heavy cannon model in case folks want to keep using it.

In case anyone missed it from the last page: no skill checks needed this week, but you can post IC as usual and I'll award the normal XP.

It may be the ammo script as from what was said the model is fine to fire, just not when you hit. I'll try and test that and let you know.

Thanks everyone for your patience as we work out these issues. We'll be back to slaughtering aliens in no time!

Daud found himself in a nice hotel he'd have never, ever been in during his old life. Only he was fully geared and here to kill someone. So, for him, the elevator ride up to the suite was long and surreal.

He'd done plenty of killing, and had even killed humans before. But this was the first time the goal was to do that specifically. Yes, they were given the option to bring him in, but he didn't have anything valuable as far as they knew, this was just for show. Normally, he wouldn't agree with just killing a human, he thought, but this guy was special scum.

Why special?

Daud did some introspection in his head during the awkward (elevator music had that effect) trip to the top. It didn't take him long. Daud's mother. She never came back that one day. It could have been because of someone just like this. He would never know for sure, so it might as well have been. Maybe he could get a little closure.

Yeah, he decided, this piece of shit wasn't coming back with them. No way.

"We're killing this evil SOB." Daud announces suddenly, and uncharacteristically.

He follows up, filling in the momentary silence after his declaration.
"Or, I am at least. You guys don't have to be part of it. We don't need him for anything, and he'll only complicate extraction."

//Question. Since we aren't able to do R&D things at this moment, would it be possible to make other skill checks, for in mission stuff?

Sure. We'll pick up with you guys entering the top floor of the hotel, before you engaged the guards.

Bo had been silent in the lift, the dire tones of some song designed to give positive reinforcement playing as they rose. She remembered a day when lift music had been a challenge, one where you tried to decide what piece of music had been butchered in order to create it. There was one behind this piece of trash too. She found herself humming along.

Contemplation of the steady change in thinking she had experienced was stimulated by the music. Either the person creating the lift musak had not examined the original track thoroughly or someone had tried to subvert the intention. When Daud spoke up she simply looked at him, finding no reason to deny his position. The humming changed into singing the lyrics softly in a surprisingly good voice.

"And the perverted fear of violence chokes a smile on every face.
And common sense is ringing out the bells.
This ain't no technological breakdown.
Oh no, this is the road to hell."

"Sounds good to me," Jesse said with a half-hearted shrug, not really catching the intensity in Daud's voice. She was tinkering with the control panel on the elevator as they ascended; trying to make sure nobody would be using it to follow them. Probably not much of a concern, since ADVENT was more likely to come in from the sky, but it wasn't like she had much of anything better to do. It was either this, or nervous fidgeting, and she preferred feeling like she was doing something useful.

Being an assassin didn't much bother her. Wasn't like they hadn't killed people before. People who should have known better. Sure, they probably would have said they were just doing their jobs - that living under ADVENT didn't leave them with much of a choice. But Jesse knew that was bullshit. You always have a choice. And the filthy collaborator they were after had made his, a thousand times over.

Vic looks conflicted at Daud's words, and people's reactions. Something about the juxtaposition of his fellow team members and the jaunty ADVENT jingle unsettles him. He grimaces. "I guess the news is right about us," Vic muttered, as he fumbled with the unfamiliar cannon, trying to get it to work. "You're here for the ADVENT captain, Daud. We're here to get you your shot at him. This 'Pierre' bastud doesn't matter to any of us. Focus."

"That's fine Pirate, but just remember, this is a slippery road you're taking. Obviously we aren't angels by this point, and I certainly took my own share of lives during the wars, but there are still differences in the why. I've seen people get consumed by revenge and hatred before, and it isn't a journey that ends well. Now we're soldiers and this is our job, but you also have to try and keep your personal feelings from getting too involved. Otherwise all the blood and hate may blind you when it matters most." Henderson said as he reclined into his armor. Evidently the boys and girls of the think-tank had built in a way to sit while the tank suit was standing, just for moments like this where he'd be stuck in place for a while. It was actually a pretty comfy built-in chair, and it even gave him the illusion of standing too!

JD did not go crazy. The heavy machine gun (or whatever that thing was called) jammed every time he tried to use it. He may have mentioned it to the others but like the time he warned the others that he may be an ADVENT spy with some implants in his head. They did not even check him. On one hand he was flatted that they trusted him but on the other he was concerned by the lack of "internal security"...

JD decided to try the sniper rifle and see if that one worked...

Stanley double-checked his grenade launcher and pistol as the elevator hummed up to the roof. He listened in silence as the others discussed killing their target. He didn't particularly have any reservations about offing the guy; he'd made his choices when he decided to collaborate with the aliens and would have to accept the consequences. Personally, he thought it was a rather futile exercise. There were always other scumbags eager to fill the vacuum created when one such figure was eliminated. ADVENT probably won't have too much trouble finding a replacement. The only questions being, how long would it take and would the new guy be better or worse than the last?

// By the way I made the effort to read the D20 manual back and forth and upside down to see how to create a sniper. It looks like all you need is good Dex and heavy weapon proficiency. Add Far Shot and may be rapid fire, quick reload and usual weapons fit and there you go. There is no real class for it but being part of police/military/secret service or mob may do it. So not quite sure what class to take. My plan was to go with soldier which fit RP wise. Any opinion? Thanks.

// as someone who has done soldier in d20 modern more than a couple times, I can tell you that it's a fairly melee heavy class. Soldier, at best, should have a side arm for when melee is not an option imo. If you're planning to do more shooting than melee, or if your stats won't support a melee build, then I would counsel against considering soldier.

You could still shoot things if you have the dex, but many of the soldier feats are melee centered.

On the subject of 'sniper' soldier characters you might find Gunslinger is better.))

I think that the latter options are more direct application than Treat Injury, but you can still use it with the raised DC.
